Mission Statement

West Bridgewater Community Access Media (WB-CAM) is a department of the town of West Bridgewater, governed by the WB-CAM Cable Advisory Board.  We provide non-commercial public and educational cable access and related technology services to the residents, schools, businesses and other institutions of West Bridgewater, with a goal of bringing the community together through free exchange of information and ideas.

History

West Bridgewater Community Access Television was formed in 2009, to oversee the local access television studio and local access programming in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Prior to that, the local access studio, its equipment, and programming fell under the responsibilities of the cable provider. The station is funded by a fee, paid by the towns cable subscribers and taxpayers. Located in the West Bridgewater Middle/Senior High School the WB Cable Access TV studio began with Scott Cray as both Cable Director and TV/Media Studies teacher.

In 2011 Benjamin Smith was hired as the first employee to work solely on behalf  of the community access station. Eventually Mr. Smith would accept the full responsibilities as Station Manager and Mr. Cray would become a full-time Media Studies teacher.

In 2015 the WB Middle/Senior High School would be completely rebuilt behind the old school.  This included a new community media studio to be utilized by both the students and town. This facility was custom designed and built to meet the needs of the organization as it grew to serve the community, including a state of the art studio, control room, storage space and edit labs.

WB-CAM have also been on the scene of local events including Town Meetings, Park Day, Town Election Candidates Forum,  High School Graduation in the park and much more.

All residents of West Bridgewater, are encouraged to become members of WB-CAM. Junior memberships are open to those 12-16 with a parent or guardian permission. Currently, training classes are at no cost to residents and there is no minimum time commitment. Don’t just watch television, be a part of it, and learn more about what makes television, what makes West Bridgewater, and more about yourself in the process.
